Photo Gallery | Trip to the Eufaula Pilgrimage
EUFAULA, AL - If you haven't been to the Eufaula Pilgrimage, you're really missing out on a Southern tradition.
I had the chance to go with a few friends this past Sunday to the 47th Pilgrimage and really enjoyed myself. I've been through Eufaula on the way to Panama City, but I've never really stopped to admire the place. This yearly event gives you a chance to step into the scenic homes located in the historic district that you've probably driven by at least a few times.
Not only do you get the opportunity to walk around inside the homes, but there are guides dressed in period costume there to tell you everything there is to know about the place. The whole town stops for this weekend of history and fun.
I'd recommend only seeing a few homes over the course of one day. The event lasts all weekend and even includes candelight tours (which I unfortunately didn't get to see), so you have plenty of time to see all the homes and gardens.
Eufaula seems to really enjoy this chance to share a little of their history and culture. Roads are closed, vendors are out on the street, and you'll see more people out and about than any other time in the city.
These are just a few of the buildings on the tour. If you went this year and took any pictures, please send them our way!
Don't miss the Eufaula Pilgrimage the next time it's around. If you're even slightly interested in history or Southern culture, you'll love every minute of it.
